I was fortunate enough to be a part of a superbike rally organized by Govt. of Odisha on World Tourism Day 2020.

The rally had around 80 superbikes from different biker groups.  I participated with the HOG- Kalinga Chapter (#kalingachapter) with 36 other members.

The rally route was from Infocity Square to Dhauli Stupa (via Jaydev Vihar- Governor House-Kalpana Square). All of us assembled at 6:45 am at the Infocity square and had snacks & beverages before starting the ride.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Language for Odisha Govt. was the Chief Guest for the function and he flagged off the rally at 7:30 am.

All the riders drove off in staggered formation and the Odisha Police guided and made way on the route for a safe rally to Dhauli Stupa. Around 8:00 -8:15 a.m., all of us reached the destination, parked our rides in marked spaces and moved to take the refreshments.

The food and beverages at both - the starting point and destination were organised by OTDC panthanivas.

The stage was set and all the dignitaries were welcomed. One by one the dignitaries addressed the riders. Proper safety protocol in these pandemic times was taken throughout the rally and function. Measures like masking, hand hygiene and social distancing were followed. The Chief Minister’s message and vision for the World Tourism Day 2020 was conveyed to us. The riders were asked to explore Odisha by road and were sponsored for a one night stay on twin sharing basis at any of the OTDC resorts in Odisha. There were biker groups from outside Odisha also. A special demonstration by a Guiness World record holder for most coconuts broken in a minute by bare hands and bodyparts was staged for everyone to enjoy. Winners of the Photography contest themed on Odisha Tourism were announced.

After completing a well organised rally and event, our HOG- Kalinga Chapter group headed on our route to Panchalingeswar Panthanivas,  Niligiri, Balasore for our sponsored stay.

Its time to Shine!      As we enter the third wave of the pandemic, we should not forget our experiences and lessons learnt from the first two waves. Rule No.1 in handling most stressful situations is "DO NOT PANIC". The clarity in thought must be there and all steps must be taken consciously after much forethought.       Lets look at the facts straight, shall we? Its a flu virus (one of the many) which has mutated/evolved and has spread globally. In 90% cases, it is presenting as asymptotic/mild or moderate disease. The overall mortality from the Infection is less than 2% (Total Cases Worldwide - 30.5 Crores, Deaths - 54.8 Lakhs) . The worst thing the Infection can do is kill us. Loss of every life is painful - both for the healthcare professional as well as for the near and dear ones. No doubt the measures to contain the spread should be there, but if we accept this mortality rate and get on wi

Farming - One Skill Everyone Should Learn

Farming or creating consumable vegetation is such an important but highly neglected skill. Mankind is highly dependent on a regular produce and supply of agricultural products. Humanity can do away with many other things but not food. In the time of COVID pandemic when only essential services were running, we realized the importance of regular supply of food and groceries.  Even with so much dependence on this sector, it remains one of the most neglected in the society. Farming should be a skill which everyone should be well versed with. It should be part of the practical classes of basic education. Everyone should be encouraged to grow one or more crops on whatever cultivable area they can use. In India, the income from agriculture is non-taxable. Inspite of that very few foray into this sector. People from traditional farming families in the villages hunt for miniscule jobs in the cities and move to the city suburbs. The lack of facilities and support to encourage farming
